Welcome to the Roundup!5th Volume, December 1999
Welcome to the 1999/2000 Roundup Newsletter. Please make yourself at home as you explore the stories, articles, poems, and photos. I summarized my thoughts about where we are at this point in time in an "editorial" of sorts. One of my favorite lines comes from a Joni Mitchell song titled "Sweet Bird". It is a haunting line that is chanted over and over. "Guesses based on what each set of time and change is touching." I think she is saying that all we have in life is the best guess we can make at any point in time based on our place in the universe. There's a joke that goes, "time is nature's way of keeping everything from happening at once". When we try to understand something, we can only be sure about it from our local perspective. This "webified" newsletter is a local (in time) perspective captured here for your enjoyment. It marks us as "the people" from earth who migrate to the desert and share our perspectives. Eventually, the chilly nights of the Rio Grande will find us huddled around a campfire; a place that time has proven to be a source of inspiration and delight. The two thousands are upon us and we are indeed living in interesting times. Here we go...
